Fourth Annual Dick and Jane Co-ed Tournament

Dick and Jane IV was held Saturday September 16, 2000 under the beautiful, sunny warm skies of Madison, and everybody seemed to enjoy the day. Dick and Jane players generously donated over $550 to the American Cancer Society. The donation was in the name of Alexa Beadle, a daughter of John Beadle, a multi-year Dick and Janer. Alexa recently battled childhood leukemia; she and her mom & dad were at the tournament.

Dick and Jane Awards

We had five major awards at Dick and Jane this year, voted on by each team. In front of a restless crowd at the end-of-tournament meeting, we compiled the votes to the best of our ability and declared the winners:
Winner- Best Cheer
Prize: a box of Cheer
Demonstrating why they're known as "The World's Loudest Co-ed Ultimate Team", the high-decibel lawn chairs of Non-smoking Giraffe won the title with their mind-blowing, Who-like rendition of "Ballyhoo are you"
Winner- Best Lookin'
Prize: a compact mirror
Spot's snappy orange outfits garnered them top honors in this category
Winner- Best Record
Prize: a beautiful handmade wooden trophy
Snarf won this category with a series of games for the ages. Allowing only six points over five games, Snarf ran away with this category
Winner- Best Spirit
Prize: spirits, in the form of gin
Tie: Hot Lunch and They Might Be Harmless
Both of these teams were first-timers at Dick and Jane. Due to a clerical error, we only announced Hot Lunch during the ceremony-- sorry!
Winner- Furthest Distance
Prize: 1994 AAA Road Atlas
This year, players from Boot to the Head ran away with this award.
Here, in order of increasing distance, are the stats:
3- Jim Parise, traveling from South Dakota. About 500 miles
2- Chris Howk, traveling from Baltimore. 860 miles
1- Andrew Cole, the Dick and Jane all-time distance king, from Amherst, MA. 1076 miles
