Mufa will get any profit from this league - made a profit last year

2005 National League Conference

Boulder, Colorado

Take home messages from Robin:
What is our non-profit status? Are we 501c3? - we are non-stock not for profit
We should consider changing ringer rule to recent Regionals/Nationals/Worlds(within last five years) or at age 35 no ringer status? - Matt and Sue will consider for Summer 05
Do we have a problem with SOTG? Do we need a policy? Warnings? Three strikes and out or maybe two? Opposing captains rate spirit on game by game basis? - Sue will formulate a draft for a policy
Take risks, be dynamic, try new things. - Matt and Sue try new league ideas every year.
Matt and Sue’s regional SL Plan is good! -yes, it is.
Madison Youth Summer League? Juniors Club in Blaine 2005?
Border Battle vs. Minnesota?(Wi/Mn high school challenge)
Hit by a bus test? What if I/Matt/Sue got hit by a bus. Could we manage leagues? - would be OK as long as all 3 not hit by bus - should expand volunteer program started in Fall League 2004L
Does our Mission Statement uphold the goals of the organization?
We need to take better care of the people that contribute! BoD. Comp the captains? - will add incentives as part of expanded volunteer program.
Do we have insurance? Are board members safe from being sued? - theoretically, yes
Beginner Leagues- run at loss, but for better good. Compensate club players for helping.
Owning fields is a HUGE proposition! Banks will not loan money. If Ottawa was going
To do it again, they WOULDN’T! and yet they are…
Ottawa has 350 teams, they charge 900$ per team for summer league (!!!)
Although they say they wouldn't buy fields if they could do it again, they are buying more.
Other facts:
19,100 UPA members
80% Fall/Spring Series players
20% League players
Big UPA push on Juniors and College programs(voted for by membership)
They also want to get involved with regional leagues… benefit to MUFA?
Not a lot that I can see. Excellent resources out there though and this will
Be coordinated by the UPA.
