Summer League Demographics

Mufa has 88 teams this year and around 1750 players. See the demographics for summer league.

What's new this year

  1. Better shirts. We are ordering nicer synthetic shirts this year and we have to get the order in by may 15 so if you register after that date you won't get a shirt, although you could order your own.
  2. You can sign up for any rec 1 league directly. Previously you could only pick rec1 and teams would be subdivided by your estimated team skill level. If the leagues number end up being very unbalanced then we might need to move teams. We still ask for your estimate team skill level in case we need to do that. The mid-season switches will happen like usual.
  3. New Rec1C division for Rec1. The Rec1C division is to spread out the teams in the Rec1A and Rec2B sections so the leagues are small enough for all of the teams to play one another. Rec1C is not a new weaker divison than Rec1b, but rather a way to spread out the Rec1 teams into more reasonable sized leagues.
  4. Rec2 is broken into Rec2A and Rec2B. Last year's captains are voting on how the league is split between the A and B divisions.

About Summer League

What:

Summer League is a co-ed league with a 4/3 gender ratio, offense decides. There are 3 main levels of play:

  1. Competitive League
  2. Rec 1 (made up of Rec 1A, Rec1B, and Rec1C)
  3. Rec 2 (made up of Rec2A and Rec2B)

When:

June 4 through August 11.
Mondays and Wednesdays for the Competitive League and the Rec 2 League

Tuesdays and Thursdays for the Rec1 League.

Early games are at 6:00. Late games are at 7:30.The games start earlier beginning late July, 5:45 for the early game, 7:15 for the late game.

Some nights there will be only one game on some fields, particularly at Manchester, so the game will start at 6:30.

There will be an end of season finals/party on Friday, August ??. TBA.

Where:

Manchester Park, Brittingham Park, Burr Jones Park, and Olbrich Park.

Teams will rank their division preferences (west or central/east). Manchester is west. Brittingham, Burr Jones, and Olbrich are central/east.

Teams in the central/east area will play most of their games in one of the central/east parks, teams in the west will play some of their games at Manchester and some of their games in the central/east parks. Teams will play a round robin against every other team in their league, not just those in their division.

There will be two games per night on a field for most of the central/east parks and west parks will most likely have just one game a night on each field and start later at 6:30.

Cost:

$25

Everyone must register online. If you can't pay online then get a teammate to do it for you.

Players

How many teams can you play on

Men sign up on one team for Summer League. Women can sign up on one team in each league (competitive, Rec, or Rec2) if they wish.

What you get for your money

Every Player gets...

  • Around 15 league games followed by playoffs
  • End of season finals/party with free food and beer
  • Team shirt
  • Summer League disc
  • Each team gets 2 free pitchers of beer at the Great Dane after each game

Shirts are colored by team.

Teams

How teams are made up

Teams are created by the players.

Deadline for creating a team

A team needs 4 men and 4 women signed up to be officially entered in Summer League and get shirts ordered. The deadline for that is May 15. You can still register additional players up to June 30, but they won't get a shirt and possibly not get a disc.

Roster Sizes

There are no roster limits. Teams can have as many men and women on their teams as they wish.

Gender Ratio

Summer League is a coed league with a 4/3 gender ratio, offense decides. What that means is that there must be at least 3 players of each gender on the field at all times. The team receiving the disc is the offense and they decide each point whether the gender ratio will be 4 men and 3 women or 4 women and 3 men.

Ringer Rule

This may change next year. Currently there is no limit to the number of Ringers on your team roster, but only two ringers of each gender may be on the field during play. A ringer is defined as any player who has played either College or UPA National in any division, i.e. college men, college women, Open, Womens, Mixed, or Masters. Note that to be declared a ringer, you actually had to play and not just be on the roster. Players over age 35 on June 1 are exempt from the ringer rule and are not ringers.

Adding Players/Finding a Team

The registration deadline is May 15. Teams can still add players until June 30, but they may or may not get shirts depending on supply. We think we ordered enough discs to cover extra people, but no guarantees. If you still need a team then make a post on MUFA chat in the forum for finding a Summer League team.

Everyone must register online. If you can't pay online then get a teammate to do it for you.

How to sign up for a team

Each team will create a team password that everyone who is playing on that team signs up with. It works just like the baggage password in Spring and Fall League.

Team skill level rating

Each team must rank itself on a 1-10 scale corresponding to how they think their team would finish in their particur league (Competitive, Rec1, and Rec2). This will only be used for the Rec1 and Rec2 leagues to re-distribute the teams in case the number per section are too unbalanced.

Leagues

Competitive League

The competitive league has the highest level of play. Play is competitive, but not at the expense of fun. The competitive league plays on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Rec 1 League (made up of Rec1A, Rec1b, and Rec1c)

The rec 1 league has more focus on good fun games, although the games can be very competitive as well at the higher levels. The rec1 league is further broken into three parts. Rec1A, Rec1B, and Rec1C.

Rec 1 leagues play on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Rec 2 League (made up of Rec2A and Rec2B)

The focus of Rec2 is playing fun games, improving skills, and meeting new people. Newer teams often play here as well as other teams looking for relaxed games or aren't at the level of the rec 1 league. The rec2 league plays on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Which league should my team play in?

We added a Rec1C league to accommodate the large number of Rec1 teams so that each section is not so large. Don't consider it as a weaker league, but more of a re-alignment so each section is more manageable.

  • If your team finished in the top 2/3 of 2006 Rec 1a: sign up for Rec 1a
  • If your team finished in the bottom 1/3 of 2006 Rec 1a or the top 1/3 of 2006 Rec 1b: sign up for Rec 1b
  • If your team finished in the bottom 2/3 of 2006 Rec 1b: sign up for Rec 1c
  • New teams should probably play in Rec2b unless they have some experience.
  • Teams that have played in Summer League in the past probably have a good idea where they fit in and whether they should move up or down between leagues.

All of that assume your team is about the same level as last year. Make appropriate adjustments to those recommendations depending on whether your team is significantly better or worse than last year.

Reporting Results

To report your results, just go to your team page and look at your team's schedule. There is a link called "result" by each game that you should use to enter in the result of the game. If your opponent already enter in the result then you can still enter a comment about the game by clicking on the "c" link.

Shirt Sizes

We are getting shirts this year that come in men's and women's cuts and sizes. The sizes are different from last year. Please take a look at some pictures for comparison. You can edit your registration later to adjust your shirt size before May 15.
